Best of 10 at Big Sky 2013

by admin on August 21, 2013

Hello followers,

It has been a long time, we’re busy with other projects, we must confess (you can have a look at the Whackala site to see what we’re up to) but the Forty Foot bathers have still been collecting accolades.

Last February, Forty Foot was chosen to commemorate Big Sky Documentary Festival‘s 10th anniversary, as one of the best 10 short documentaries to be shown in the life of the festival.

To remember it, they commissioned designer and illustrator Josh Quick to make a limited edition poster representing the 10 films.

We received our own copy of the poster a while back and, now that we finally got round to 1) framing it nicely, 2) finding a pride of place for it on our wall, and 3) taking a picture of it, we can brag about it and show it off to you!

Nice, eh?

Thank you Big Sky! Thank you Josh Quick! We love it.

Forty Foot in Shanghai

by admin on July 4, 2012

Forty Foot is thrilled to be part of the first Irish Short Films Summer Showcase in Shanghai

On July 14, the Consulate General of Ireland, in co-operation with the Irish Centre, presents a summer showcase of Irish Short Films in Shanghai. Speaking in advance of the showcase the Consul-General of Ireland, Mr Austin Gormley, said:

“This is an opportunity to introduce Shanghai audiences to the best of Irish short and animated films in a relaxed and friendly setting.  We expect that the events will raise awareness of Ireland as a hub of creative film ideas and talent and a world-class location for filming. I am delighted that the event is taking place in the Irish Centre, which is a great venue to promote cultural exchange between Shanghai and Ireland.”

The Short Film Showcase will introduce new and innovative filmmaking through short stories, animation, documentaries, and slices of Irish life. The films have been carefully selected to give audiences a taste of Irish culture, particularly the art of storytelling and Irish wit.

The event will be free and will be accompanied by refreshments! There will be a discussion salon after the showing, about the films watched and the art of movies led by a local expert. We look forward to seeing you there!

Crew and stylists on board for calendar!

by admin on February 28, 2011

Many thanks to everyone that replied to our post. We now have our full team and are marching ahead to get everything ready for the photo shoot at the end of March 2011.

The calendar will be made with the Forty Foot swimmers from the 11 o’clock club to raise funds for Action Breast Cancer, a subsidiary of the Irish Cancer Society.

We will post news, behind the scenes pics and footage from the day soon after the shoot and will launch it and begin selling it in next Autumn.

Leticia Agudo from Whackala is project managing this:

The 11 o’clock club group of swimmers from the Forty Foot raise funds yearly for Action Breast Cancer through a sponsored triathlon. This year they’re also launching a calendar with the theme of 50s glamour on the beach with a humorous touch. It will be a 3-day location shoot in the Forty Foot: 30th March – 1st April 2011.

This is a free gig with plenty of perks:

1.     Credit. The back cover of the calendar is a group photo of the production team with names and credits.

2.     Exposure: the swimmers are marketing masters. In these tight times they still managed to raise €40,000 last November for the charity through promotion and contacts alone.

3.     Existing fan base: aside from this film the swimmers and the Forty Foot have also been featured in various national newspapers, magazines, other documentaries and TV.

If you have some experience and interest in vintage styling or make-up, and can do a glamorous and elegant look, Leticia wants to hear from you! You can contact her at: leticia [at] whackala.com

Forty Foot screening in Dun Laoghaire

by admin on November 15, 2010

Forty Foot comes full circle, and will at long last screen at it’s birth place (or at least very near to it) Dun Laoghaire. The film was entirely shot in Sandycove and we are delighted that it’s going to be shown so close to home.

It’s screening as part of Underground Cinema’s November selection at the Kingston Hotel in Dun Laoghaire, on the 25th of November 7:30. Some of the stars of the film (the 11 o’Clock Club & The Sandycove Bathers Association) may be in attendance. We cannot guarantee this, as these busy people are hard to pin down, but we have it on good authority that they might be attending.

Why not pop along and join in the fun.

Hope to see you there.
